The National Sport School in Pembroke, extended an invite to the Malta Football Players Association to visit its campus. An invite that was gladly accepted by the MFPA.
The idea behind the National Sport School, is to provide an educational experience, for local youths to enhance and develop both their sporting skills as well as their academic skills.
The MFPA is grateful to the head of school Mr. George Micallef, Mr. Paul Zammit and Mr. Stefan Sultana, for the opportunity to meet and talk to some of the youngsters attending the school. Youngsters with big potential who very well maybe, the future of Maltese football. The MFPA was able to discuss the current matter of the Nursery Compensation fee petition, which has been launched by the players’ association and which seeks to abolish the said nursery compensation fee. The association was able to give important tips and information to youths currently thinking about signing with a club. This platform also afforded youths the opportunity to ask questions themselves, get clarifications and seek guidance. Finally MFPA invited young players to seek out the MFPA for consultation and advice during their football career.
The MFPA explained how it shares the National Sport School’s belief, that sport should not be the only skill that youngsters acquire. It emphasised the importance of obtaining academic skills. These skills become vital, especially when one considers the short lifespan of a footballer’s career. In practical terms, a player will need a career after the football years are over and this should be kept in mind during these crucial educational years.
