It was a case of triple delight for Alexander Satariano at the MFPA Awards 2025 as the versatile Birkirkara FC and Malta midfielder became the first player to win the MFPA Men’s Best Player and Best Young Player honours in addition to his nomination in the MFPA Men’s Best XI for the outgoing season.

In the female categories, Shona Zammit captured the top prize after securing her second MFPA Women’s Best Player award, capping a memorable season in which the talented midfielder helped Swieqi United win their maiden women’s league title.

The countdown is on! With less than a week to go before the eagerly-awaited MFPA Awards, the final nominees have been revealed. All eyes will be on the outstanding performers during season 2024-25 during the MFPA’s annual flagship event, this year taking place on 12th May at the Radisson Blu Golden Sands Resort.

A total of 36 awards will be presented on the night, including the 11 players earning a spot in the MFPA Best XI for both men and women, and the two most coveted prizes – the MFPA Men’s and Women’s Best Player.

The Malta Football Players Association (MFPA) has shared its feedback on the National Consultation Document released by the Ministry for Home Affairs, Security, and Employment in January 2025. 

This document includes 32 recommendations to improve Malta’s Labour Migration Policy, focusing on third-country nationals (TCNs) working in Malta. TCNs are individuals coming from countries that are not in the European Union, European Economic Area, or Switzerland.

The Malta Football Players Association (MFPA) is compelled to report another case of unacceptable treatment of football players by a local football club that has failed to pay its players for over three months. The situation is both appalling and concerning.

The team in question includes five foreign players who earn close to or the equivalent of the national minimum wage. To make an already difficult situation worse, it has also come to light that a portion of the players’ salaries in the initial months of the season was deducted to cover accommodation costs.
