We have been receiving worrying reports that a number of professional players were being prevented from training with the rest of the team and instead asked to train on their own. Mainly the reason behind this is, that the players didn’t accept to terminate their valid employment contract. On another occasion a player was asked to train with the under 19 team when he is twenty-three years old and hence not eligible to play in a competitive league with the youth team. Football is a team sport that requires training as part of a team. Without adequate training, fitness levels and skills will consequently have a damaging impact on the player's career. For this reason, training is considered a fundamental right of professional athletes. The actions of any individuals or clubs barring players from adequate training are consequently in breach of its contractual duties and will result in players having a valid reason to terminate the contract and be entitled to damages. MFPA will be guiding these players accordingly to ensure the matter is resolved as soon as possible and urges the persons involved to reintegrate these players to train with the rest of the team.
