More educational opportunities for players thanks to the Life After Football programme.
The Malta Football Players Association (MFPA) has published the list of educational and academic courses for season 2022-23 as part of its Life After Football programme.
Launched in 2017, the Life After Football programme offers educational opportunities for football players to further their knowledge and academic competence as the MFPA recognises the benefits of studying while pursuing a football career. The benefits include reducing the pressure of football, enhancing the player’s readiness for the transition into a post-playing career, and developing new skills and identities.
“Learning skills in parallel with a football career is essential for a player’s long-term financial stability,” Carlo Mamo, the MFPA General Secretary, said. “It is for this reason that the MFPA is constantly striving to consolidate its Life After Football programme by increasing the number and variety of the courses as well as sustaining the level of financial assistance to our member players who avail themselves of these opportunities.”
The MFPA is collaborating with a number of reputable academic and learning institutions to provide an array of accredited courses in different fields for its member players, ranging from Level 1 Foundation up to Level 7 Master’s Degree programmes.
The Life After Football prospectus for season 2022-23 can be accessed under the Services tab and Education section.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE COURSES
In addition to the academic courses included in the official prospectus, the MFPA also organises English language courses for foreign players engaged with Maltese clubs. The introduction of the MFPA Basic English Language Course last year followed discussions with a number of Premier League coaches who noticed that foreign players who speak little or no English were having difficulties communicating.
Taking on board the feedback from the first two editions of the basic English language course, the MFPA plans to host three different courses this season in order to cater for players with different levels of language proficiency – very basic, basic and intermediate. More details about these courses will be issued very soon.
Any player interested in furthering his/her education at any level can contact the MFPA at info@maltafpa.com or call on 27135505/79398055.
