The MFPA constantly engages in discussions with players from all categories of Maltese football to keep track of the ongoing developments and provide support in search of further improvements in areas that directly affect our members.
Last Saturday, Carlo Mamo and Mark Barbara, MFPA General Secretary and Deputy General Secretary respectively, met the women’s national team players who form part of the MFPA Player Council.
The first-ever minimum standards framework for women’s national teams, introduced by UEFA last October, was among the main topics discussed, also in light of the revised Memorandum of Understanding covering the sporting and technical conditions of female players forming part of the Malta national team set-up. The UEFA framework sets out a range of standards comprising provisions covering sporting, good governance, coaching, medical care, training, player welfare, accommodation and remuneration.
One of the key points of the MOU, signed by the Malta Football Association and the MFPA in September, relates to the collective commitment to develop a maternal and early childhood support policy for female footballers. This has been identified as a priority area by the women’s football representatives on the Player Council and the MFPA administration.
The MFPA Player Council brings together active players representing clubs from different categories of Maltese football, including the amateur leagues, and the members of the MFPA Executive. This forum gives players the opportunity to discuss and influence regulations, trends and the strategic development of local football, encouraging them to take on initiatives linked to player health and personal development besides other off-pitch matters.
