Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport (KMS) together with the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) have set up the AFM Sports Scheme, offering athletes the opportunity to take up a career path within the AFM. This programme is open to top junior and senior sportsmen and women. The objective of this scheme is to effectively contribute to the general advancement and improvement of sports in Malta at the highest level.
Athletes signing up to this scheme will be in the employment of the AFM and are expected to follow a structured career path in the AFM. Athletes following both career path options will be expected to apply their expertise acquired from the world of sports to their daily tasks in the Force to the benefit of the AFM. Selected candidates will also be required to successfully complete basic military training, which should not impede the individual's sporting programme.
All athletes on the scheme will be required to have a coach recognised by the respective National Sport Organisation (NSO). Participation in the AFM sports scheme will be under strict annual review and will be target driven. More information can be found at AFM Sport Scheme.
